Regent Street Black Box
Salt Lake City, UT 84101

Around the world the First of May (May Day) commemorates the efforts of working people – farmers, crafts people, and teachers (to name a few) – come together to celebrate the fact that their work makes the world a better place. It’s a day we remind those in power of the worth of everyday people. Living wages, time off with family and friends, safe and affordable housing – issues related to May Day celebrations and protests – are also prominent themes in flamenco. Flamenco singers write about being a voice of the people and NOT of the king, they sing about wrongful imprisonment and persecution and they sing about asking for coins in exchange for a song or a dance. ¡May Day! on Saturday, May 24th- will explore flamenco songs of protest, hope and power as a celebration of everyday people.
Run time: 90 minutes, includes 15 minute intermission.
Age policy: Recommended ages 8 and up. All patrons require a ticket (no infants being held).
