Arts Community Survey

Salt Lake County Arts & Culture (A&C) and Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) are working with Arts Consulting Group (ACG) to better understand the needs and experiences of our local arts and cultural community.

The survey is now closed. Thank you for your responses.

The last 90-minute listening session of our project will be held virtually on July 21st at 5:00pm. To participate online, please RSVP HERE.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS SURVEY?

As our community continues to grow and develop, A&C and ZAP would like to better understand how we can support artists, creatives, and arts and cultural organizations. This survey and its analysis will help evaluate how well current A&C programs and facilities are meeting community need, identify gaps in support for artists and cultural organizations, and inform and align our future funding, programming, and strategic goals with our mission and the SLCo A&C Master Plan.

WHAT IS IT?

This brief online survey:

  • Will ask questions about your awareness and use of existing A&C programs, services, and facilities.
  • Will gather some general information on your entity/artistic practice (discipline, size, zip code, etc.).
  • Will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
  • Closes on Friday, July 11, 2025.
  • Survey data will be compiled into a final report, with individual responses kept anonymous and only reported in aggregate.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE SURVEY?

We would love to hear from a broad range of those working in the arts and cultural community in Salt Lake County.

This includes:

  • Arts and cultural nonprofit organizations
  • Local arts agencies (whether structured as a nonprofit, hybrid, or public entity)
  • Arts and cultural groups or collectives
  • Individual artists (this includes hobbyists to professional artists)

Eligibility:

  • Only one response per artist or arts organization
  • Respondents must be based in or serve Salt Lake County

WHO IS CONDUCTING THE SURVEY?

ARTS & CULTURE is a Division of Salt Lake County government committed to advancing access to the arts and cultural experiences across the region. The Division manages five performing arts venues and one art museum facility, provides technical and patron support for hundreds of events, and invests in artists and organizations through free community programming.

ZOO, ARTS & PARKS (ZAP) is a publicly funded program that annually supports over 230 arts and cultural nonprofit organizations through grants. These grantees serve over 8 million visitors a year with nearly half attending free of charge. This funding goes to support programming including cultural events, educational programs, performances, festivals, museums, botanical gardens, and more. This is all to achieve the mission of the ZAP program to enhance Salt Lake County resident and visitor experiences through art, cultural, historical, and recreational offerings.

ARTS CONSULTING GROUP (ACG) is a Certified LGBT Business Enterprise and is the leading provider of hands-on leadership transitions, revenue enhancement, and planning and capacity building services for the arts and culture industry. Founded in 1997, ACG is a full-service firm that effectively works with a wide range of nonprofit organizations, universities, government agencies, and for-profit entities that operate in creative industries. The firm takes a contemporary approach to client challenges and opportunities focused on growing institutions, advancing arts and culture, and enhancing communities. HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT THIS EFFORT?

Please share the survey with your networks and encourage fellow creatives to lend their voices. You can find graphics, links to reshare social posts, and flyers for the survey HERE.

As a token of our gratitude for completing the survey, you may enter a drawing for one of six $50 Amazon gift cards. Winners will be randomly selected from eligible respondents (one entry per artist/organization, based in Salt Lake County). Gift cards may be used by the individual or on behalf of their organization. Winners will be directly contacted one week after the survey closes.

WHEN WILL THE RESULTS BE AVAILABLE?

The online survey portion of this effort will close on Friday, June 27, 2025. The consulting group will then conduct several listening sessions with community members at the end of June. Following this, the consulting group will take a few weeks to review and analyze all of the data. A final report will be available in fall 2025 at which time our A&C teams will circulate the information to our newsletter lists and participants.
