"From Cauvery to Colorado"
From the Cauvery River in Tamilnadu, India, to the Colorado in the USA, from the Ganga to the Jordan river and the great Salt Lake, we explore the myriad ways in which we conceptualize, worship, use and abuse our most abundant yet scarce natural resource - Water. We hope to leave the audience reflecting on how our conception and abstraction of the role rivers play in our lives, can influence (or not ?) the way in which we conserve/preserve/respect this resource. We will be weaving in a section on the Great Salt Lake and its place in our lives, collaborating with Nan Seymour, our resident poet advocate for the Great Salt lake. The medium of storytelling is the South Indian classical Dance of Bharatanatyam, but the stories will span cultures and histories and continents. Featuring all new music composition and choreography and dancers from the Chitrakaavya Dance ensemble, this is a production bridging the ancient and the modern, addressing universal human concerns.
Run time: 1.5 hours including 15 minute intermission.
Recommended for ages 8 and up. Infants not admitted. All patrons require a ticket regardless of age.

Over the past two years, it’s been the force driving her recovery from a debilitating stroke she suffered on November 17, 2020, at age 67. Her masterful, multi-Grammy-winning songwriting has never deserted her. To wit, her stunning, sixteenth studio album, Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart, brims over with some of the best work of her career. This wildly amusing piece is a dance theater satire set in a research study observing six people stuck in the same space together for five years and follows each of them on their fateful journeys. The Company will premiere Monica Bill Barnes's Wish You Were Here which will include a large cast of guest dancers from Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, Weber State University, Southern Utah University, University of Utah, and Westminster University. This piece resembles a partner dance without a partner. Dancers gesture as if to ask someone to dance and then swirl their imaginary partners into ever shifting, swirling choreography. Rounding out the program is a world premiere by Company Artistic Director Daniel Charon.

This interactive dance experience is a modified version of the evening performance, RE-PLAY with accommodations for individuals with sensory sensitivities, a shortened show, and narration providing insights to the art of dance. These interactive dance experiences are wiggle-friendly and allow for audience movement and vocal reactions. It is well suited for families with young children, people with neurodivergence, as well as first time theatergoers. The staff and dancers are trained to accommodate audience requests and responses. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the dance performance in their own unique way, in a safe, non-judgmental environment. ASL interpretation will be provided.

Richard Thompson’s musical influence cannot be overstated. Having co-founded the groundbreaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the 60s, he and his bandmates invented the distinctive strain of British Folk Rock. He left the group by the age of 21 which was followed by a decade long musical partnership with his then-wife Linda, to over 30 years as a highly successful solo artist. In 2011, Thompson received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. The Los Angeles Times called him the finest rock songwriter after Dylan and the best electric guitarist since Hendrix and Rolling Stone has named him one of the Top 100 Guitarists of All Time. He has received lifetime achievement awards for songwriting from Britain’s BBC Awards, the Americana Music Association, and was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award. His song “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” was named one of TIME Magazine’s “100 Greatest Songs Since 1923.” A wide range of musicians have recorded Thompson’s songs including Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney, Del McCoury, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Jones, David Byrne, Don Henley, Los Lobos, and many more. His massive body of work includes many Grammy nominated albums as well as numerous soundtracks, including Werner Herzog’s Grizzly Man. The work is inspired by the effect of ongoingness within a changing world and through the sharing of roles and collective care, adaptation through connection is made possible. The Rate We Change features an original score by Salt Lake City composer Daniel Clifton. Finally, the return of guest choreographer and alumnus Company dancer jo Blake’s coincidences, when we meet up (2022) rounds out this compelling program. This reflective trio focuses on personal connection of radical self-love and clarity of voice discovered by experiencing trauma. Plunging, swirling, and diving amongst the complications of today’s social issues, this dance invites the ever-changing, coordinated, and repeated murmurs of individual growth and change. This dance is accompanied by an original score by Salt Lake City composer, Trevor Price.

This interactive dance experience is a modified version of the evening performance, RE-ACT with accommodations for individuals with sensory sensitivities, a shortened show, and narration providing insights to the art of dance. These interactive dance experiences are wiggle-friendly and allow for audience movement and vocal reactions. It is well suited for families with young children, people with neurodivergence, as well as first time theatergoers. The staff and dancers are trained to accommodate audience requests and responses. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the dance performance in their own unique way, in a safe, non-judgmental environment. ASL interpretation will be provided.
