This classic opera tells the tale of Canio, actor and leader of a commedia dell’arte theatrical company, who murders his wife Nedda and her lover Silvio on stage during a performance after discovering their affair. Canio portrays the character of Pagliaccio, while Nedda portays Pierrot’s unfaithful lover Columbina. The opera explores the blurred line between art and reality, culminating in Canio’s famous line “La commedia è finita!” – “The comedy is finished!”
